Nice walk, the room on the broom trail means there’s stuff for kids to look at and the cafe is decent too

Visited the Heronry Country Park and Visitors Centre today Saturday 11th January 25. This is run and maintained by Wakefield Council. My wife and I, along with our dog, travelled there by car. We were amazed and shocked at the dangerous condition of the carpark. Whilst we appreciate the current weather conditions are very bad, with frozen snow and ice we thought it appalling that absolutely no effort had been made by the Council to clear the carpark of snow and ice. It was a potential death trap! We are able bodied but many elderly people and disabled people visit this Country Park. We were disgusted! We enjoyed our walk. It is a beautiful place to visit. We decided to have a coffee at the Cafe attached to the visitors centre. Guide dogs are welcome but we were firmly told we could not sit inside with our dog. The seating outside was covered in ice so we had to stand to drink our coffee's. We like to support local businesses but the Council make this difficult with the current dog policy. There are very few cafes and pubs in the Lake District that don't allow dogs. Even locally business owners appreciate the positive effect of allowing dogs. When we left I used the men's toilet. The door was wedged open to allow some light in from the door as the lights were broken. There was also a foul drain smell! Overall a very disappointing visit!

Really nice place for a walk. Ok playground for kids, and also a cafe. Cafe needs more staff though and stock. They had run out of numerous items on the menu by 12pm

Just a nice place to walk around with the family & dog (or other pets) plenty of parking £1.00 for 2 hours, the ticket machine is cash only. I take my old dog for a walk out, he prefers it to getting out at the vets 😀

Really nice place for a walk. About 2 miles around the lake I think. Dog & kid friendly with nice cafe.
